Secret 7 2015

#606 Hand made sleeve for St Vincent track Digital Witness. The idea for the design was to produce the title of the track in braille, since blind people read with their "digits".

The dimensional ratios for the braille were measured out according to standard UK form and based upon the diameter of the plastic beads which I used to for the dots. Each bead had to have the plastic sticky backing removed carefully and then carefully placed in the right place using superglue. This turned out to be an extremely difficult task and this is actually the third version. The slightest imperfection showed was magnified by the spray paint I used.

The only way to place them in the right place was to draw the layout on a piece of paper, then use pins to mark each dot. Each bead was placed on to the dots using a paper clip with a piece of blu-tack on the end.

The exhibition took place in Sommerset House in London, the only Secret 7 to take place there and among the other artists taking part were Yoko Ono and Sir Peter Blake who co-designed the sleeve for The Beatles Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club.

In 2013 I also took part in the event with a digital design for the Laura Marling track - The Beast. Among some of the other artists taking place that year were Ai Weiwei and Gilbert and George.

Next year, 2017 I aiming hoping to score a hat trick.

My design was composed of a photograph of a frozen pond, a monkey I took a photo of in India in 2002 and asheep's skull.
